Consultative Meeting

One of our ongoing research projects delves deeply into the critical connection between water access and livelihoods in northern Ghana under the One Village, One Dam (1V1D) initiative. Our approach heavily relies on comprehensive data collection methods, including surveys, focus groups, and extensive engagement with key stakeholders. Over the past two years, we’ve successfully amassed two datasets, with plans underway for a third set this year.

During this gathering, Professor Charles Amoatey, the principal researcher, provided insights into the project’s achievements so far. He underscored the dynamic nature of water accessibility and its profound impact on livelihoods within the region. Moreover, Professor Amoatey outlined our team’s strategic collaboration with the International Water Management Institute, aiming to leverage satellite imaging for continuous real-time monitoring of select dams. Additionally, he reiterated the team’s unwavering commitment to disseminating the findings through research papers, thereby extending the scope and influence of the study.

The co-principal investigators further enriched the discussions, delving into the recent findings from the midline survey. These findings sparked stimulating dialogues among stakeholders, fostering an active exploration of strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of the 1V1D initiative. Collaboratively, the group formulated robust policy recommendations tailored for the initiative’s second phase and for the consideration of current and future governments, all aimed at optimizing the programme’s impact.
